The Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are part of our daily world; the use of these technologies has greatly simplified our lives. Through them we can immediately get information or communicate with any place in the world in a matter of seconds. However, there are still places where there is no access to these technologies, which inevitably has plunged these regions into a sort of delay or isolation from the world.
This map shows telecentres and infocentres which are run by organisations that IICD and the national ICT4D networks work with.
In Africa and Latin America. These organisations implement development projects with an ICT component in the areas of agriculture, education, governance, health and livelihoods. Part of the work of these organisations is the creation, maintenance and management of telecentres and infocentres.
A telecentre is a public place where people can access computers, the Internet, and other digital technologies that enable them to gather information, create, learn, and communicate with others while they develop essential digital skills. While each telecentre is different, their common focus is on the use of digital technologies to support community, economic, educational, and social development - reducing isolation, bridging the digital divide, promoting health issues, creating economic opportunities, and reaching out to youth. The infocentres operate in the same way but do not have Internet access.

Through this map of telecentres, visitors can learn about telecentres in rural areas and the great work that is being performed to include the entire country’s communities in the era of ICT.
